They waited in one accord: Acts 2

Luke 24:49 "But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high."
They weren’t just waiting. They were obeying. Preparation always comes before outpouring.
Before the fire fell, there was silence. Before the tongues of fire, there were prayers of surrender. Before the birth of the Church, there was a group of desperate, obedient believers who refused to leave the room.
We often want the power of Pentecost without the patience of the process. We crave the wind and the wonder, but we skip the stillness. In Acts 1, Jesus tells over 500 witnesses to wait in Jerusalem for the promise of the Father. But ten days later, only 120 remained. Seventy-six percent walked away. Only twenty-four percent waited.
That number should shake us. If three out of four walked away before the promise came, we must ask ourselves: will we be part of the 24%?
Acts 1:12–14 describes the scene. The disciples return to the upper room after Jesus ascends. They wait. They pray. They stay together. There’s no strategy, no agenda, no timeline. Just hunger, unity, and obedience.
Acts 2:1–4 tells us what happened next. Suddenly, Heaven responded. The sound of wind filled the house. Tongues of fire rested on each of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit. But don’t skip what came before that moment. Ten days of silence. Ten days of obedience without clarity. Ten days of prayer without results.
This was not a conference. This wasn’t a polished revival service. It wasn’t curated by a worship set or driven by a guest speaker. This was raw. This was inconvenient. This was a room full of people who had nothing left but Jesus’ last words.
And that was enough.
Today, the Church doesn’t need more polish. It needs more fire. But fire doesn’t fall on the distracted. It falls on the desperate. It falls on those who wait, even when others walk away. It falls on those who obey, even when they don’t understand.
Jesus wasn’t in the room. But His promise was. And the 120 who clung to it became the foundation of a global movement that is still shaking the world today.
Let this message stir your heart. Don’t be part of the 380 who leave too soon. Be part of the 120 who stay until Heaven moves. If we want to see the fire fall, we must prepare the atmosphere it falls on. Hunger. Unity. Prayer. Obedience.
