Jesus Unveiled: Commissioned to Carry the Flame

Philippians 1:6 (ESV)"He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ."

You are not just sent. You are sustained. God finishes what He starts.

Sent on Purpose

In October of 2011, I stood on foreign soil with nothing but a Bible and a storm in my heart. I was in Biaha, Brazil. I had no sermon. I had no plan. I felt sick, overwhelmed, and unqualified. And that night, God reminded me of something I never forgot: He didn’t wait for my confidence. He waited for my surrender. That night hundreds came to the altar. Not because I had it all together, but because I showed up willing.

Now it’s your turn. This isn’t just the end of a series. This is the beginning of your calling. Jesus said go. Not to the perfect. Not to the fearless. But to the willing.

The mission is not a suggestion

Luke 6:46 says, “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?”

Jesus gave a command, not a suggestion. If we really believe He is Lord, then why do we delay? Why do we respond quicker to a text from a boss than the voice of our Savior? He said go. Not when you feel like it. Not when your finances are in order. Not when it’s convenient. Just go.

Great commission means great surrender

Matthew 16:24 says, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”

Jesus never invited us to admire Him. He called us to follow. Following Jesus means letting go of comfort. Letting go of pride. Letting go of your plan. If you’re not ready to surrender everything, you are not ready to carry the flame.

You are sent but never alone

Philippians 1:6 reminds us that God finishes what He starts. And in Matthew 28:20, Jesus promised, “I am with you always.”

You’re not walking this path alone. You don’t carry this message alone. The One who conquered death walks with you. When it gets hard, He stays. When you want to quit, He strengthens. You are not just lit with fire. You are carried by the One who gave it to you.
